Some Willows enjoy motherhood. Northern Lights has made it her entire personality. From the moment her Saplings arrive, Northern Lights becomes deeply committed to their care, supervision, organization, scheduling, feeding, and general whereabouts. Particularly their whereabouts. Attempts by young Saplings to leave the nest are often met with immediate intervention. Researchers have documented numerous incidents involving growling, retrieval operations, and strongly enforced nursing schedules.
The Saplings occasionally express interest in independence. Northern Lights does not. Human attempts to borrow kittens for photos, health checks, or brief inspections are met with similar resistance. Researchers have observed Northern Lights physically reclaiming kittens using both paws and mouth, often before negotiations can begin.
Unfortunately, the situation has expanded. Northern Lights’ dedication to motherhood is not limited to her own Saplings. On one memorable occasion, several orphaned kittens were introduced to her nursery. Before the kittens had even touched the bedding, Northern Lights had already claimed them. The adoption process was completed immediately.
Researchers suspect Northern Lights believes all kittens belong to her until proven otherwise. The Dreamwoods Research Institute has officially classified Northern Lights as a full-time mother, part-time kidnapper, and highly effective manager of kitten affairs.
